Kitchen suppression systems in New York City: what to know
Every 6 months, and again after any discharge. The technician must hold an FDNY S-17 Certificate of Fitness. The system gets a tag if it passes, or a written report listing anything that needs to be fixed.
Yes. Plans are filed with the FDNY and reviewed before the system is installed, and the FDNY inspects and witnesses an acceptance test once it is in. A commercial cooking system permit is also required. Central Fire takes care of the plans and the filing.
The system has to be recharged, reset and serviced before you cook again. We recharge and reset systems after a discharge so you can reopen as quickly as possible.
